Here's the sad thing, I used to work in a hotel and one of the numerous departments I trained in was the Telephone Operators...
And yes, people pull stuff like that all the time even though we stress it's a hotel!
Although a bunch of us got our revenge by stringing one caller along for a whole hour, hanging up on him repeatedly, having one male colleague answer, and pretending we were a police station.
Ah, fun times!
