Because of you I learned to never talk to strangers
Because of you I learned to never play in the playground
Because of you I learned to hide my emotions from others
Because of you I learned how to smile when I felt like crying
Because of you I learned to make people notice me when they tried to ignore me
Because of you I learned not to trust anyone who said they wanted to "Help"
Because of you I learned to fend for myself
Because of you I learned how to live with very little and never beg
Because of you I learned to fear my birthday
Because of you I learned how to hide in shadows and not make a sound
Because of you I learned what hatred really was
